There is only one God; all will obey him, eventually
Remember this and stand firm, recall it to mind, you transgressors, remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, 'My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose'
God has a purpose (vision and mission) especially in regard (a) humans and (b) Israel.
- God's purpose cannot be frustrated, although humans attempt to do so.
If there was no plan humans would be purposeless and as Albert Barnes points out we would find no rest, our minds would never be satisified (our rest is with God).
- We can have confidence in God because his plans are being accomplished - the prophecy of Messiah being the suffering servant has been accomplished, we have been saved.
No one has the power to prevent God accomplishing all He desires (Romans 9:19); we therefore have no need to worry about our future; a Christian's future is fully certain.
